Thank you for your time and for accepting to be our “Member of the Month.” Before we get into your story, let’s start with a brief introduction… (Age, town, family/kids, occupation, etc.)
I’m 39 years OLD, and I’m born and raised in Cohasset. I currently live in Cohasset and don’t see myself relocating anytime soon. Once you get in you stay in ;0) Another perk is having the entire family living in Cohasset. My other half was born and raised in Dorchesta (very evident by the lovely Boston accent) and one VERY verbal 2.5 year old. If you want to be told where to go and how to get there, come talk to Blithe. We are currently raising Blithe bilingual… Dorchester (“Ma, Whea’s the cah?”) and Cohasset (“Mom, where is the car?”). She’s really taking to both quite nicely. I am a third grade teacher at an elementary school in Hingham and have worked there for 13 years. Most days it’s rewarding and enjoyable, some days, I go bananas.
When and how did you get started with us?
I was always curious about what CrossFit was like. I had a couple friends who joined other boxes and used to talk about it and how intense and rewarding it was. I have to be honest… I said to myself that I’d never do it because I was just fine at my own gym doing my own thing. Clearly that didn’t stick! After having my daughter, I was unhappy with my physique and wanted to get back into shape (a less rotund shape), so my wife talked to my brother, a SCICOH member at the time, and she got me a 3 month membership for my birthday. Hook… Line and… Sinker! The rest is history.
My favorite workouts were the ones I got to do with my brother (cheesy I know). Now that he is no longer there, I’d have to say I enjoy anything with double unders, sit-ups, or power cleans.
Least favorite workout?
Currently, a recent one sticks out in my mind- 4 rounds of 600 meter row… not my finest moment ;0) Most times, I dread anything overhead with a squat. A weak area for me, but I know the more I do it the better I’ll get.
What’s the best part about working out with your class?
I’m lucky enough to have the opportunity to work out with two classes. I winter with the 4:45 and summer with the 9:30. Both groups are very motivational and push me to be at my best each and every day. From changing my flat tire to literally peeling me off the floor, they have shown me what it means to be a part of a strong community and family. The laughs are abundant and very much a part of each WOD.
What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?
My daughter at 12 months in the tub with a shampoo Mohawk.
What’s your favorite “cheat” meal?
I have to choose just one??? I’d have to say, buffalo tenders.
What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?
Toddler owl costumes, why does she insist on telling everyone she’s going to be an owl when I already have a lion?! Ugh!
If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?
An elephant! Society wouldn’t judge my size and wrinkles 🙂 I’d also love having a memory like a trap.
What is one way CrossFit has positively impacted your regular/daily life?
I feel stronger and more secure with myself.
What advice would you give to a new member at CrossFit SciCoh?
CrossFit is a judgment free zone. YOU do YOU! And, live to lift another day!
If you could sum up CrossFit SciCoh in one word, what would it be?
