She may be little, but she sure is strong!  Read all about Melissa W. in this week’s edition of Member Monday!

1. Tell us a little about yourself?
I am 43 years old, I have 3 kids, 2 dogs and a wonderful husband, Ted.  We live in Scituate and particularly enjoy the summer months…we love to be outside, especially on our boat.   I enjoy working out, and drinking wine…maybe not in that order!  Kidding aside, I am very busy, either running to someone’s baseball or soccer games, making lunches for the day or cleaning up after one of the dogs.  This is the life of a stay at home mom, but I feel very fortunate!

2. Tell us your CrossFit story (where were you before SciCoh and where are you now?)
I have always been a “gym rat”…tried everything, and always needed to switch things up.  I have tried it all, running,  spin classes, boot camp classes, weight training, but at times I just seemed to be going through the motions.  My husband had joined a cross fit box in Boston over a year ago and kept telling me I would love it.  At the very same time,  one of my favorite instructors was leaving my old gym and I thought, well this is the perfect time to switch it up and try it! Well everyone was right, I do love it!  Sometimes it is a love-hate relationship…the workouts can seem so tough, but it also forces you to try things you never normally would. I love that every WOD is different, never giving you a chance to get bored!

3. What does being part of the SciCoh community mean to you?
It is a comfortable blanket!  I love the “normalcy” of everyone there.  It is one of the few places I can say, you can make friends with anyone!  There are so many different types of people there, that are all in the same boat, it is truly a melting pot!  It is nice to know that everyone working out with you is supporting and cheering you on, and honestly wants you to do well.

4. What accomplishments are you most proud of?
I think I am proud that I am able to constantly push myself to lift more and more…I love doing dead lifts, front and back squats…but recently felt really good about my overhead squat.  I never thought I would say that at my age! Kinda wish this was around when I was in my 20’s, always hated that step aerobics stuff!
5. What are your challenges and goals going forward?
I find at times so frustrated that I can not do a kipping pull up!  Everyone says, “oh it will come, it took me a while to get it!”  Really, or are they trying to be nice… I always thought I was strong, that was before I stepped into Crossfit SciCoh.  My goal is to work through it until I can do multiple kipping pull ups! Soon I hope!

6. If you could a super power, what would it be and why??
I wish I had the power to heal, life would be a much easier and happier place if no one ever had to deal with illness!
