Meet Cal, our member for this week’s Member Monday!
1. Tell us a little about yourself?
I am originally from County Tyrone which is in the North of Ireland and came to the States when I was in College for an internship. Once I finished I came back shortly there after and have been working in real estate finance ever since. I married my wife Jamie 4 years ago, we have a 15 month old son Jack and for good measure we have 2 black labs, Mollie and Frank.
We moved to Scituate shortly after we got married. I really enjoy the people and the lifestyle of being near the beach and the great outdoors.
2. Tell us your CrossFit story (where were you before SciCoh and where are you now?)
Growing up in Ireland I have played a lot of Gaelic. When I came to the States I joined a mens gaelic football club in Brighton. The group training and the games were pretty much the extent of my exercise. Once I stopped playing a few years ago, I managed to get myself into less than ideal shape, although round is a shape.
Since joining CrossFit Scicoh in November ( 4-5 months ago) I have been able to lose 35 lbs, I have dropped multiple sizes in my clothes and to be honest feel the best that I have been in years, both in terms of my health and my overall outlook.
3. What does being part of SciCoh community mean to you?
I absolutely love being part of the SciCoh community, since I stared I have had the pleasure of meeting lots of new people that I would otherwise not have met.
There is a great comradery within the group when we work out. The Coaches are great to work with, they are really professional and make the workouts and interactions really enjoyable.
4. What accomplishments are you most proud of?
Being able to do burpees with out feeling like I wanted to shoot my self is certainly up there in terms of accomplishments. Gaining the confidence to perform the movements and workouts is what I am most proud off. Initially, I was unsure in terms of being able to perform an exercise or complete a WOD, now I feel really confident that I can do the workout whether it is prescribed or scaled.
5. What are your challenges and goals going forward?
In the shorter I want to continue to lose weight and improve my overall fitness, in terms of conquering movements, I would like to be able to get to the point where I can do a muscle up.
6. How has CrossFit changed the way you feel about fitness?
I think CrossFit has really changed my perspective on fitness in terms improved progress and also the variety of movements and workouts that are available .
