How to Talk CrossFit with a Loved One

I’ll come out and say it. I want you, your family, your best friends, your priest, and anyone else you are close with to be part of SciCoh with you.

The business motivation is obvious, but the more important reason is it helps YOU. Having more of YOUR tribe in here:

  • builds in multiple accountability partners for YOU
  • creates a community YOU enjoy.
  • makes it easier for YOU to have successful habits

In other words, it makes YOU more successful in your health!

Here’s the challenge – talking CrossFit with them is often harder than selling ice cream to an eskimo.

THE TYPICAL STORY

Let’s see if you’ve heard this one before…

Your significant other, co-worker, or friend wants/needs to get back to fitness. Clothes are a little tighter than in the past. The shape has rounded out. And the worst part, he/she just doesn’t feel good mentally.

You know that if they would just walk through the door at SciCoh, it would all change!

But you also know that the word CrossFit will scare the crap out of them.

You think about how to approach the conversation and then your window opens up. He/she looks at you and says, “Wow you really look great! What are you doing? I really need to get back in shape.”

Jumping at the opportunity you say, “I do CrossFit actually. It…”

You are immediately interrupted with several of a thousand excuses….

  • “Ohhh that’s way to hard for me.”
  • “I need to get in better shape first.”
  • “I’m a runner, I don’t do weights.”
  • “I don’t want to get bulky.”
  • “I don’t want to get hurt.”
  • etc.

Now what?

KEEP IT TO 2 SIMPLE STEPS

Talk of WODs, AMRAPs, functional movements, community, and scaling is the equivalent of Baxter speaking Spanish to Ron Burgandy (self high-five for Anchorman reference). Instead, keep it to 2 simple steps…

Step 1 – Talk Start Not Finish

“Regardless if CrossFit is right for you or not, I can tell you SciCoh is the right first step. A Coach will meet with you for 15 min to understand goals, preferences, and ultimately fit. Many times there is a fit at SciCoh, but there are also some instances where they recommend another place. Either way you know you are on the right track.”

SOMETHING YOU MAY NOT KNOW

We never sell. We help.

For many that means the typical group classes. For some that means personal training. And for others that actually means a different facility & methodology.

Believe it or not, we guide potential and former members to other facilities sometimes. There are a ton of reasons why (they prefer to workout alone vs. with Coaches, they’d rather not strength train at all, etc.) but it ultimately comes down to where they will be most successful.

Our commitment is to doing everything in our power to help everyone that walks through our doors…even if that is done best by directing them elsewhere.

So know that as you recommend someone close to you to start here, they will indeed get our honest and best help. It’s likely that will be within our walls. But even if it’s not, we will put them on the right path.

In other words, regardless of where they end up, the right start is at SciCoh.
